This exhilarating film is an impressionistic visual essay that follows the construction of a skyscraper in New York. Made over a two-year period with over a dozen cameras shooting from numberous vantage points, Going Up uses time-lapse and slow-motion photography to capture the poetry, the drama, and the hard work in this awesome undertaking.

Structured like a musical score, the film is divided into a series of movements, each featuring a different composition by one of fifteen new music composers. The spellbinding soundtrack -- hardhat banter, the clatter of tools and machines -- dramatizes the story as cutting-edge music meets a symbol of modernism: the skyscraper.

Graced by evocative landmarks, enhanced by the natural drama of the changing light and the changing seasons, Going Up imbues the workday realities and prcedural details with an infections sense of wonder. From shirtless summers to demanind New York winters - when snow sometimes must be carefully shoveled from the mammoth steel girders -- Going Up traces the process of a now commonplace, but still miraculous, engineering feat, creating an urban ballet of men and materials high above the city's streets.
